A secondary school student who struck a watchman with a metal rod this morning leading to his death will face murder charges.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations says the student, who is yet to be named, “has been placed in custody and will be charged with murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code.”
In the Sunday morning incident, the student from a boys’ school in Vihiga County, had reportedly became unruly and attacked other students using a metal rod. Willy Mukonambi, a guard, intervened.
Turned On The Guard
“The 18-year-old form three student then turned on the guard and hit him on the head repeatedly, using the metal rod,” said DCI. “He was rescued by his colleagues who together with the school nurse rushed him to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, in critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.”
The incident caps a tragic week involving student brutality where two teachers were stabbed, and a knife and panga seized from students.
