Cancer patients visiting Makueni County Referral Hospital for treatment have expressed their agony as nurses strike entered the third day.
Those who visited Makueni Cancer Treatment Centre were turned away as medics kept off the station with only a few who are on contract serving patients with other health problems.
Sammy Munyao who was diagnosed with throat cancer a year ago had visited the facility on appointment to continue with treatment but was turned away.
“There was only one health officer at the centre but he told me my attention required assistance from other medics and I was told to go home and come when the strike ends,” said Munyao.
He appealed to the government to look into the nurse’s grievances for them to return to work so that he can get treatment. Munyao is undergoing a lot of pain.
Munyao who appeared traumatized said he has lost his hair and beard due to the disease. “If the situation persists and no solution is coming forth, then I may lose my life to the decease,” he said.
