Juja Member of Parliament Francis Munyua Waititu is dead.
Waititu, known to friends and constituents as “Wakapee”, passed on at the MP Shah Hospital on Monday evening.
“It with deep sorrow that we announce the passing on of our loving dad Hon. Francis Munyua Waititu. May his soul rest in eternal peace and may God grant him the divine grace to accept his will,” said the legislator’s wife Susan Munyua.
“In Hon. Waititu, we have lost a progressive lawmaker who was consistent in introducing pieces of legislation geared towards the improvement of the agricultural sector, and ease of doing business in Kenya.”
Munyua, a second-time legislator, had been battling brain cancer for some time. He was nicknamed “Wakapee” out of his generosity at a beer table. When a bill was brought after drinking with friends, he would declare “I will pay”, as he reached for his wallet. It was corrupted to “Wakapee.”
“I treasure the fond memories of over 30 yrs of our friendship,” said former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo who met the MP earlier in the day before his demise. “Fare thee well my friend.”
Other leaders who sent their condolences include Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze, Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut, and nominated Senator Millicent Omanga.
