The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua says that the scouting movement and NYS should be made compulsory for all children.
According to the Dr. Mutua, it is only by taking these radical measures that the country can address the run-away immorality and indiscipline among the youth.
The moral cop says that the Ministry of Education should make compulsory that all children in primary and secondary schools join scouting movement.
Also, Dr. Mutua says that joining National Youth Service (NYS) should be made a requirement for those joining tertiary institutions.
“The run-way immorality and indiscipline requires radical measures. We are busy building the hardware of development and politics while the software of morality and discipline among the youth is going to the dogs,” says Dr. Mutua.
The scout movement was founded in 1908 by Lord Baden Powell. The movement stresses on discipline and values-based development of “young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spirituals.”
In Kenya, the movement was founded in 1910. It is voluntary.
Founded in 1964, NYS is an organisation under the government. Its core mandate is to train and mentor young people on importance of national matters.
NYS trains and mentors youth through; Paramilitary and regimentation. National building programs. Technical and vocational training in various skills and trades .
Like the scout movement, joining NYS is voluntary too for Kenyan youth aged between 18-22 years.
