A case in which nine Mugumo Girls High School students were on Friday, February 19 arrested over an arson attack that razed down a dormitory has taken a new twist.
This is after police arrested a student from Kamama Boys High School in connection to the fire that razed to the ground the 220-bed capacity dormitory.
Confirming the arrest, Gichugu Sub-county Police Commander Anthony Mbogo said the Form Three student was nabbed in Kimunye village in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County.
A rogue student
According to the boy’s parents, Kamama Boys was closed last week after students went on rampage, destroying school property.
A Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer in Gichugu East had said that the students used a cigarette lighter to torch the dormitory.
It is now turning out that the student from Kamama Boys was the one who sneaked into Mugumo Girls and gave his girlfriend the cigarette lighter.
The nine Mugumo Girls students who are being held at Kianyaga Police Station have all mentioned the Kamama Boys student, and have agreed to be state witnesses.
The suspect was accompanied by another student when they sneaked the cigarette lighter. Police are looking for him.
