A man who released a video of Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip allegedly smoking shisha in the company of a woman has pleaded guilty to charges against him.
Jones Ochieng Mbolo was on Wednesday, February 17 charged at the Milimani Law Courts with attempting to extort money from Senator Loitiptip’s female friend, identified as Aeedah Bambi.
Mbolo told the court that he took the video on February 12 at a city restaurant because shisha smoking was banned in Kenya in 2017.
He then sent the video to Senator Loitiptip, demanding that he sends him KSh200,000 or he leaks it, but the lawmaker did not fall for the blackmail.
He also sent the video to Aeedah and threatened to expose her on social media platforms if she does not heed his demands.
Omolo was banking on the fact that smoking shisha is in contravention of the public health regulations.
Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku ordered Mbolo to be remanded at the Industrial Area Remand Prison, awaiting his sentencing on March 3, 2021.
