Detectives in Kisumu have seized hundreds of litres of illicit liquor and contraband cigarettes from a crime syndicate operating in the Riat area.
One suspect was arrested and a Toyota Fielder detained. “The operation was initiated following public outcry over increased consumption of the ‘kill me quick’ liquor,” said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) last evening.
“Acting on a tip-off, detectives cornered a suspicious Toyota Fielder at a garage, recovering fifteen 20L jericans of suspected chang’aa from it. Upon interrogation of the lone driver, detectives proceeded to a store within Riat area, therefrom making the rest of the recoveries.”
Kondele DCI officers say the liquor and cigarettes are being traded by a criminal cartel. In the last two days, police have confiscated over 500 litres of suspected Chang’aa, 240 bottles of Simba Waragi and several bundles of export cigarettes.
“Trailing of more suspects is underway, with detectives working with the local leaders to neutralize the syndicate,” says DCI.
