Deputy President (DP) William Ruto on Monday recounted the day he was on the receiving end of the wrath of the Late Simeon Nyachae.
Addressing hundreds of mourners gathered at Gusii Stadium for Mzee Nyachae’s funeral ceremony, DP Ruto eulogised the former cabinet minister as a strict and focused leader who was a stickler for good behaviour.
DP Ruto recalled one particular day in Nyamarambe in Kisii County, when he, together with Omingo Magara, “misbahaved” in a public function.
“Apart from the blows and the other measures that were meted on his immediate family, those of us in politics, he (the Late Simeon Nyachae) also did not spare us.” stared DP Ruto.
“I remember very well in Nyamarambe, Omingo Magara and myself misbehaved and Michael (the late Nyachae’s son) did not say he is actually the person mzee sent to go and collect the cane. Na hapo tuliadhibiwa,” narrated DP Ruto.
DP Ruto, however, said that they understood their mistake and went to apologise to Simeon Nyachae at a later date, and he was so forgiving.
“But I also say Mzee Nyachae was loving and forgiving. I rem, ember subsequently we looked for him, and he was very gracious. He did not tell us to go to the office, he asked us to go home, and Mama Grace (Nyachae’s widow) is a witness. We went and asked for forgiveness from Mzee and he was a gracious mentor and father,” said DP Ruto.
