A Kericho County official is in hot soup after a court found him guilty of procurement and tender irregularities.
Charles Nyasani was on Friday, February 12 found guilty of failing to disclose interest in a tender that his company was awarded.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) Noordin Haji says that Nyasani, who was Kericho County’s chief accountant, was found guilty of conflict of interest.
For this crime, Nyasani has been fined to pay KSh500,000 in default and serve one year in jail.
The court heard that Nyasani failed to declare that he owned Nyasco Commercial Enterprise yet he was in the tender committee that awarded it a tender to supply dry foodstuff worth KSh700,000.
The court ruled that prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that indeed Nyasani was guilty of the offence.
“Kericho court finds county official guilty of failing to disclose interest in a tender that his company was awarded. He was also found guilty of conflict of interest. He was fined to pay Sh500k in default, serve 1 year in jail,” says DPP.
