A 48-year-old man from Nyeri who is accused of defiling his daughter was on Wednesday arrested.
The man is reported to have defiled his helpless seven-year-old step-daughter on Tuesday night in Nairutia area when her mother was away.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect resides in a two-bedroomed house with his wife and the victim. Together, the three share one of the bedrooms and a common bed, with the other room left unoccupied.
The casual labourer at Nairutia centre left the minor the following morning and went to his workplace.
The Grade One pupil then sought refuge to a female neighbour where she narrated her ordeal to her and another female neighbour, leading to the suspect being traced and nabbed.
“The victim has since been given medical attention, and the clothes worn on the fateful night secured for forensic examination,” says the DCI.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has lauded the two responsible neighbours for assisting the minor, and the sensitivity with which they handled the delicate case.
“We urge the continued cooperation with the public in keeping our children safe,” adds the DCI.
