TV47 ‘News’, ‘Morning Cafe’ and ‘Destiny’ among station’s most watched programmes – Survey

TV47’s ‘News’, soap operas ‘So Much Love’ and ‘Destiny’, weekend entertainment show ‘Bomba La Sanaa’ and the adults-only ‘Garden of Eden’ are among the most watched TV programmes on the station.

New research by TV47 on the One Pulse Kenya platform shows that TV47’s breakfast show ‘Morning Cafe’ is also popular with viewers.  

The survey was conducted yesterday using One Pulse’s trendsetting consumer insights tool.

The tool enables brands to receive market feedback from consumers in a matter of minutes. The tool operates on a SaaS-based platform, while the sample size was drawn from the company’s mobile app community that has 13,000+ potential respondents.

The respondents in the TV47 survey were drawn from throughout the country. The survey established that the majority of TV47 viewers are in Nairobi, Kisumu, West Pokot, TransNzoia, Uasin Gishu, Kiambu, Nyeri, Nakuru, Machakos, Mombasa, and Embu.

The respondents were in the 18-60 years age bracket. They have an income of between Ksh10,000 and Ks250,000.

‘Garden Of Eden’, which airs every Wednesday at 10pm is popular with 21-24 year olds, with 58.06% of the respondents having watched the show.  

18 to 20 year olds account for 40% of the programme viewership. In the 25-34 year demographic, 30.36% reported to have watched the show.

The survey also shows that TV47 is popular with youth aged between 18 years and 34 years. In the 18-20 age bracket, 50% watch TV47 News, and an equal percentage tune in to ‘Morning Cafe’, ‘Destiny’ and ‘So Much Love’.

Among those aged 25-34 years, ‘Destiny’, the soap opera, is their favourite show on TV47, with 47.06% watching. This age bracket (25-34) also loves starting its day with news analysis and commentary as done on TV47 ‘Morning Cafe’ every weekday from 6am.

In the energetic 21-24 years age bracket, comprising mostly young professionals, 33.33% watch News, Bomba La Sanaa, MorningCafe and the soap operas.

Interestingly, all the respondents in Kisumu said they watch ‘So Much Love’. Aired every weekday from 6pm, the soap opera about two lovers fighting against their relentless faith in the heist of murder and lies.

In Nairobi, 40.63% of respondents watch ‘MorningCafe’, and this number is slightly more –at 50% in Mombasa.

The survey also says other top watched TV outlets in Kenya include sports shows on DStv and the entertainment on Netflix.
