Residents of Gatitu area in Nyeri County are living in fear after an unknown animal attacked and killed livestock over the weekend.
The suspected beast attacked sheep at the home of former Nyeri Town MP Wanyiri Kihoro.
Residents told TV47 Digital that the suspected carnivore killed the animals before sucking their blood.
A farmhand at Kihoro’s home says that residents are living in fear because this is not the first time an incident of similar nature has occurred in the area.
The former lawmaker rues that he has incurred a loss of more than KSh100,000, because this was the second time the animal was attacking livestock at his home.
He reported the matter to the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS). KWS officers are suspecting a leopard is responsible for the trail of destruction. They have set up a trap to contain the suspected leopard.
Residents say that there has been an increase in cases of human-wildlife conflict in the area.
Since wild animals retreat to their niche in the wee hours of the morning, the residents are worried that school-going children can encounter this dangerous animals.
