Ngong Matatu saccos have gone of strike to protest the introduction of Super Metro Sacco buses on the Ngong-City Centre route.
The strike left hundred of commuters stranded, with many getting to their workplaces and schools late. The resident Sacco deems the entry of Super Metro as unwelcome, fare-driven competition.
Kenyans took to Twitter to shame the Ngong matatu saccos saying they had been extorting the already strained mwananchi, and carrying excess passengers.
Lydia Wambui: “Super Metro karibuni sana…finally people can save on fare and their dignity.”
Kipkorir Anjeyo: “I am not shocked. Super Metro si walipigwa vita pale Thika but see how it ended. Ngong Matatu Saccos are shameless and selfish. Overcharging and overloading. Super Metro comes in to fix that and every one of them complains its unfair.”
Netizens are heaping praise on Super Metro, saying it deserves to dominate all Nairobi routes.
“The interesting part is that Super Metro fares are not lower than competitors. Their overall service is good so clients opt to queue and pay more,” said Wambugu Kanyi.
Originally playing the Nairobi-Kikuyu route, the Super Metro sacco has spread its tentacles to Thika Road, Wangaria Maathai Road, Karen, and now Ngong.
