Abdulrehman Alwy the co-founder of Red-Splash Kenya has been nominated for the Commonwealth Youth Award, 2021.
Abdulrehman, whose initiative creates awareness on the importance of voluntary blood donations, is among 20 finalists who will battle it our for a £5,000 (Ksh750,000) cash prize.
The Commonwealth Award recognizes young people with projects that are transforming lives in societies and contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
Over 5,000 Patients
Abdulrehman’s Red-Splash also operates an online, blood-donations initiative that so far served over 5,000 patients.
This year, the commonwealth youth awards have expanded to include five regional categories: Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Canada and the Pacific.
The top finalist from each region will be announced as the regional winner at the official awards ceremony on March, 10, 2021. The ceremony will be held virtually for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All 20 finalists will each receive a trophy, certificate and £1,000 (Ksh150,000) to expand their projects. Regional winners will receive Ksh300,000 and the overall Ksh750,000.
