A Kiambu Court on Tuesday released politician Mike Mbuvi Sonko on a bond of KSh300,000 with a surety of the same amount.
The ruling by the Kiambu law Courts was in relation to assault and robbery with violence charges levelled against the former Nairobi governor. He has denied the charges.
Earlier in the morning, Sonko was rushed to Nairobi Hospital after complaining of stomach pains.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) however insisted that Sonko must appear in court to face the charges.
Sonko had been scheduled to appear before magistrates at the Kiambu and Kahawa West courts respectively for robbery and terror cases.
At the Kahawa West court, a ruling will be made on an application by police to detain him for 30 days to complete a terror probe.
On Monday, DCI sources revealed that they are investigating Sonko’s escape from Shimo La Tewa Prison over 20 years ago.
Detectives are also seeking to hold the former governor for 30 days to conclude their investigations over Sonkoβs alleged links to planning terrorism and financing.
