Three years ago, Wanjohi Ngaca was involved in a road accident in Mukurweini, Nyeri County.
The accident left him paralyzed. After six months in hospital, he was discharged at least to contain the runaway hospital bill.
He sunk into despair, a promising life halted by immobility. He says at one time, he preferred death to the suffering he was facing. But he found a new life in singing songs of worship, and preaching.
Strumming Guitar
We found him at his home determinedly strumming a guitar and belting out a gospel tune from behind a make-shift microphone fashioned off a plastic water bottle. Outside, horn speakers hang on trees under which his neighbours occasionally sit to listen to his preaching.
He says his wife Rose has supported him all along. “May God bless her. She has strived to ensure I am comfortable even in my predicament,” Wajohi says.
“Through sickness or ill health, a couple must stick together,” says Rose.
