A man who is accused of killing his girlfriend by tying her up to a bed and setting the house on fire has been cornered.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, who has been on the run since last Friday has been found but has locked himself up at a house on the fifth floor of an apartment in Kayole, Nairobi.
“He is currently at a balcony, threatening to commit suicide. Our officers are at the scene pleading with him not to take his life on account of his actions, since all is not lost,” says DCI.
It is reported that Margaret Muchemi had invited the suspect, her estranged boyfriend, to talk about issues affecting their relationship and to iron out their differences.
A report filed by the deceased’s two house helps say that the suspect arrived at around 8 am on Thursday, and their boss gave them time off, “saying that the ex-boyfriend wanted some privacy as they addressed their stalemate.”
“Later on in the afternoon, the house was seen in flames, and even after efforts to put out the fire, nothing was salvaged, not even the deceased,” says the DCI.
Murder most foul
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the burnt body’s hand appeared to have been tied before the house was set ablaze.
Neighbours tried to put out the fire but it was too late as they found the body whose arms and legs were tied to the bed. Her face was burnt completely.
The 34-year-old mother of one had medical training and was operating a clinic in Mwiki, Kasarani.
Detectives based in Kayole have been working jointly with DCI’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) to find the suspect.
