American DJ, record producer, and media personality Khaled Mohammed alias DJ Khaled will host the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) on February 20. MAMA will be held in Kampala, Uganda.
“MTV has always been a great partner so I jumped at the opportunity to host this year’s MAMAs,” writes DJ Khaled on social media. “I can’t wait to celebrate the incredible music that comes out of Africa, which has inspired me throughout my career.”
He’ll host the event at the comfort of his home in Miami, Florida, alongside other African co-emcees. Some of these emcees will be physically present in Kampala.
Sauti Sol Among Nominees
Among the African artists who’ve been nominated for the MAMA awards include Sauti Sol and Ethic Entertainment. They’ve both been nominated for The Best Group category.
Khaligraph Jones, Kwesi Arthur, and Nasty C have been nominated in the Best hip hop category.
DJ Khaled has also been nominated for an award under the Best International Act category, alongside Queen B, Beyonce, (US), The Weekend (Canada), Drake (Canada), Da Baby (US), and Meg Thee Stallion (US).
The announcement that DJ Khaled will host the awards will likely boost his popularity in Africa and earn him votes.
The voting process closes on January 31.
