A 29-year-old man who is accused of brutally killing his neighbour in Zombe area, Kitui County, has been arrested.
Nicholas Luka was arrested by DCI detectives on suspicions that on January 13, 2021, he monstrously butchered the man before burning his body at a nearby bush.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Luka had an argument over a KSh4,000 debt with the deceased, 36-year-old Simon Mwangangi.
The argument, apparently, culminated into a full-blown fight prompting Luka to pick a panga with which he slit Mwangangi’s throat, “then watch him bleed out his life.”
In an attempt to cover up the murder, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says that Luka then dragged the body to the said scene, covered it with a heap of plastics before setting it ablaze.
The remains of the body have been taken for a forensic DNA analysis to ascertain if indeed it was Mwangangi’s remains.
Missing for a week
The deceased’s disappearance from his house for a while week raised suspicion among the neighbours.
Led by Mwangangi’s brother, the villagers embarked on a scrupulous search on Thursday.
“Hours of combing a nearby thicket with the help of neighbours saw the recovery of a recently burnt human skull, a few bones and some ashes, which have since been collected for DNA analysis,” says the DCI.
