The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed claims that it is sabotaging the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati said that Suna East MP Junet Mohamed’s grave accusations are not only unfortunate but also false.
Junet had said that IEBC is part of a scheme that is out to scuttle BBI. He said there was no internet connectivity at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday and Tuesday.
In his response, Chebukati says that the commission leased the Bomas of Kenya facility for purposes of signature verification exercise.
According to Chebukati, IEBC’s contract with the facility outlined the need for uninterrupted power supply and internet connectivity.
“The commission acknowledges having experienced intermittent internet connectivity challenges on the material dates at the facility occasioned by system upgrade of the bandwidth and power outages,” says Chebukati.
Chebukati adds: “The issue was formally brought to the attention of the Bomas of Kenya management for quick action and the same addressed.”
