A Form Three student who was reportedly abducted from his school in Meru had faked his kidnapping.
Detectives investigating the case say that “we discovered the student had faked his kidnapping and was whiling his time away unperturbed at Nkubu town.”
The boy’s family had reported that they received calls from “abductors” requesting a ransom to secure his freedom.
After the sleuths launched an operation to trace him, it was discovered that the whole ‘kidnapping’ story was a ploy by the boy to extort money from his parents and relatives.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is now warning school-going students to restrain from engaging in criminal activities and instead focus on their education.
“Any form of Criminal activity shall be met with the full force of the law, regardless of one’s status in the society,” says the DCI.
