A Kenyan teacher, Jane Kamiti, has been named winner of the 2020 African Union Continental Teacher of the Year award.
Jane Kamiti, the principal of Othaya Girls Secondary School, bagged the AU continental award at an event held in Adis Ababa on December 21.
Kamiti was feted for engaging in quality teaching techniques which result in high standards of students achievement.
She was also recognised for nurturing good behaviour among students through her positive feedback and other unique but conventional methods.
This is not the first time Kamiti’s excellence is being recognised. In June 2019, she bagged the 2019 Principal of the Year Award (Poya) for her innovation and use of Information Technology (ICT) in teaching her students.
“I stood out due to innovation, where we have been able to integrate ICT in teaching and learning and we are able to even teach other schools from a remote centre in Othaya Girls,” Kamiti said when she received the award.
