Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama is dead.
Governor Nyagarama died at the Intensive Care Unit of The Nairobi Hospital where he was receiving treatment reportedly for Covid-19. He was 74.
Nyagarama was also battling diabetes, his family says. He has been on life support on Sunday night, and was taken to the hospital three weeks after he tested positive.
“He was a patient on increased oxygen demand. He stayed in the Covid-19 ICU under the care of doctors and nurses,” a source familiar with the Governor’s treatment said.
Governor Nyagarama was serving his second-term as governor. He was a former long-serving director at Kenya Tea Development Authority.
He was first elected in 2013 on an ODM ticket, and reelected in 2017 through the same party.
