Late Nyamira governor John Nyagarama will be accorded a state funeral.
The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government also says a committee comprising of leaders from Gusii land has also been formed to lead the burial preparations.
“The committee will to steer burial plans in liaison with the deceased’s family,” said the Ministry in a statement.
Governor Nyagarama died today at Nairobi Hospital. He was receiving treatment for COVID-19 preparations. The committee is co-chaired by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and Kisii County Governor James Ongwae.
Nyamira Senator Okong’o O’Mogeni, and Joash Nyamoko, North Mugirango MP will be vice-chairpersons. Nyamira County Women Representative Jerusha Momanyi will be the Treasurer.
Governor Nyagarama was serving his second-term as governor. He was a former long-serving director at Kenya Tea Development Authority.
He was first elected in 2013 on an ODM ticket, and reelected in 2017 through the same party.
