Sofapaka head coach John Baraza has resigned just three games into the 2020/21 Football Kenya Federation Premier League.
Baraza stepped aside after the club’s hierarchy asked him. He had led Sofapaka to two losses in three matches.
“We have asked coach Baraza to step aside as we plan to take him for further studies either in Norway or Germany. For now Mururi is in charge of the team as we prepare for our next match against Kariobangi Sharks and we will announce the new head coach anytime from tomorrow,” said Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa.
The 3:0 mauling at the hands of AFC Leopards was the last nail on Baraza’s Sofapaka coffin.
Physical Trainer Diallo Kwasi and Assistant Coach Martin Ndagano have also been dropped from the main team to the club’s youth team.
Sofapaka lost their their opening league match against Mombasa-based Bandari, won their second match against Western Stima, but suffered a loss the cub has termed as “shocking” the club has always enjoyed a better head-to-head record against the former league giants.
Sofapaka currently sits 10th in the table with only three points from a possible nine.
Before the start of the season, Sofapaka unveiled the Wundanyi Stadium in Taita Taveta as their new home ground after leaving Machakos Stadium in Machakos.
