Kenyan athlete has become the first ever human being to complete a half marathon under 58 minutes.
Kandie clocked 57:32 seconds at the Valencia Half Marathon on Sunday morning to smash the half marathon world record by 29 seconds.
The previous record on 58:01 was set by Geoffrey Kamworor in Copenhagen in September 2019.
Jacob Kiplimo, Rhonex Kipruto and Alexander Mutiso who wrapped up the top four slots also finished the race under 58 minutes dwarfing Kamworor’s record.
Ugandan Kiplimo who came in second clocked 57:37, Kipruto clocking 57:49 on his debut to settle for third place as Alexander Mutiso came in fourth with 57:59.
The new record by Kandie is subject to the ratification processes World Athletics.
This is the fourth time Kandie has run the 21km race under 59 minutes this year.
He also did the same at the Gdynia, Prague and Ras Al Khaimah half marathons.
