Matungu MP Justus Murunga was on Saturday laid to rest.
Murunga was interred at his Makunda village home in Matungu, Kakamega County, in a ceremony that was attended by among others Deputy President William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga, area governor Wycliffe Oparanya and area senator Cleophas Malala.

Other leaders who graced the occasion included ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetangula, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, and MPs Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Ayub Savula (Lugari) among others.

The burial service was held at Makunda Primary School grounds in Matungu, Kakamega County, with attendees strictly observing the COVID-19 containment protocols including not shaking hands and judiciously wearing face masks.

The late Amani National Congress (ANC) lawmaker died on November 14 at the St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias.
Two weeks prior to his death, Murunga had been admitted at Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu, battling diabetes.
He suddenly fell sick again with breathing problems and died while he was being rushed to the hospital.
Burial postponed
Murunga’s burial was initially scheduled for November 28 but the plans had to be shelved. This is after a woman claiming to have two children with the MP obtained a court order temporarily stopping the burial.
