Daniel Matego and Evaline Chirchir won the 2020 edition of the Eldama Ravine half marathon in Baringo County.
Eldama Ravine formerly known as Chemususu Dam Half Marathon is a charity event managed by a Community Based Organization (CBO). The marathon that happened on Saturday, November 28 was the 7th edition of the marathon with Daniel Matego and Evaline Chirchir carrying the day.
According to e-ravinemarathon.org, the inaugural race was done in 2014 and has worked with a huge number of sponsors to attract international athletes.
The Eldama Ravine Half Marathon proceeds aim to educate bright but needy students from across Baringo county and the country large, Conserve Chemususu dam catchment area and establishment of an information centre at Chemususu dam and promote domestic tourism.
“The marathon also aims to provide infrastructure support to Uzalendo School, a school that caters for free secondary education of students from poor families, modeled along with Starehe Boys` Centre and Starehe Girls` school,” e-ravinemarathon.org wrote on their platform.
The Community Based Organization (CBO) is also working closely with the National Police Service (NPS) to establish a police post and construct a perimeter wall around the dam to enhance security and safety.
The annual event which attracted more than 400 athletes was geared towards raising funds for the conservation of Chemususu dam and school fees for needy children in the region.
