The much-talked Huduma Namba card is finally here!

Starting December 12, 2021, no government services will be offered to any Kenyan without Huduma Namba card.

According to ICT Cabinet Secretary (CS) Joe Mucheru, the government will phase out the current National ID by December 12, 2021.

CS Mucheru has urged government agencies and business entities to start initiating systems that will accommodate the QR Coded-Huduma card.

“Sasa tumeanza mpango ili ofisi zote za serikali ziwe na hizo machines ndio ukifika huko unatumia card ama unaweka fingerprint, tunajua wewe ni nani na inaleta security na protection,” CS Mucheru said.

Mucheru was speaking on Wednesday, November 18 during the launch of the issuance of Huduma Namba cards in Machakos County.

Kenyans to be notified starting December 1

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has revealed that starting December 1, Kenyans will start getting SMS, notifying them that their cards are ready for pick-up.

Matiang’i says that Kenyan getting SMS notifications will be given a grace period of one month to pick up their Huduma Namba cards from the designated centres they registered from.

During this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Gusii Stadium President Uhuru Kenyatta, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and ten other Kenyans were the first recipients to receive their cards.

At the time, the only constraint preventing the government from fully rolling out the Huduma Namba was the pending appointment of a Data Commissioner.

That bottleneck is no longer there after Immaculate Kassait was sworn-in as the pioneer Data Commissioner of Kenya on Monday, November 16, in a ceremony that was presided over by Court of Appeal Registrar Moses Serem.
