Legei died on Monday, November 16 at the Nairobi Hospital where he has been undergoing COVID-19 treatment since Friday last week.
A source close to Legei’s family told Citizen Digital that he drove himself from Kiserian to the hospital on Friday after developing chest complications, and tested positive for COVID-19.
In 2013, Legei was crowned champion while still at the Presidential Escort Unit. He also won national awards in shooting games in 2001, 2003, and 2008.
In January 2017, Legei wedded his long-term girlfriend Rose Lenkupae in a traditional Maasai ceremony.
He had recently being transferred to Kitui County as the Kitui East Sub-County commander.
