The Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) has signed a Sh5 million partnership deal with Pan African Kisima Music & Film Awards 2020.
The partnership between KFCB and Kisima Awards will see the top winner in one of the film categories walking away with up to Sh1 million. The winners will be announced on December 13 2020.
KFCB CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua said that the future of music and film- an industry with great potential of creating jobs and wealth for artistes in Kenya, lies in collaborations and partnerships like this.
This years theme is Reawakening of the soul, spirit and vibrancy of the African music and film industry.
Kisima Awards recognises musical and film talent and awards artists from a range of genre. The event will be an opportunity to cushion artists whose livelihoods have been affected by the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The winner will also be mentored and provided with business support to be able to employ other youths. S/he will also receive international exposure.
KFCB will also avail the Nairobi Film Center for Kisima to support youths doing films, music and other activities in the creative industry. The facility has a seating capacity of 850.
Kisima Awards Chairperson Fred simiyu thanked Dr. Mutua and KFCB for the support, re-assuring that the pan-African event will look into building solidarity of Africa through music, creative creation and film making.
Kisima is an annual awards program that recognises musical talent in East Africa. Despite being Kenyan-based the scheme awards artists from a variety of countries, predominantly Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, and incorporates a range of music genres. This year’s award has been extended to the whole of Africa.
