Did you know that United States (US) President Donald Trump has been receiving special treatment from Twitter? Yes, that is true.
The microblogging site has been giving Trump special treatment when he tweets posts that violates the company rules or are misleading.
When a regular user tweets something that violates Twitter rules and policies, the social media network immediately removes the post. But the same company places “public interest” notices on tweets that violate the rules and policies but are from world leaders.
Tweets from world leaders and government officials that are against the rules are usually hidden and their reach restricted.
Trump will lose this privilege
Now that Trump is poised to lose his seat to Democrat Joe Biden, he will lose this privilege from Twitter, once President-elect Biden assumes office in January 20.
According to a Twitter spokesperson, “this policy framework applies to current world leaders and candidates for office, and not private citizens when they no longer hold these positions.”
Twitter has in the past added many warnings and labels to tweets from @realDonaldTrump account, the recent one been on Tuesday, November 3 when the Republican candidate made allegations of electoral fraud in the concluded US election.
When Biden takes office, Trump will now be categorised as a regular user and the rules will apply to him.
