Harambee Stars lethal striker Michael Olunga will miss the 2022 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double header against Comoros.
This follows the coronavirus scare that has engulfed his Japanese club of Kashiwa Reysol.
Reysol announced the suspension of ‘all activities’ for the first team after the team’s head coach Nelsinho Baptista along with three players, whose identity has been hidden, tested positive for the virus.
Eleven members of Reysol’s staff have too tested positive.
“The activities of the top teams, academies and schools have been suspended since November 4 and will continue to be suspended for the time being,” the club said in a statement.
Olunga and his teammates were scheduled to play Tokyo FC in a cup tie on Saturday, but the game has since been postponed.
Harambee Stars will be in action against Comoros in the first leg on November 11 at the Kasarani Stadium with the return four days later.
Olunga who leads the top scoring chats in Japan with 23 goals, 26 games into the 34-match season has since established himself as Kenya’s leading striker and his absence is a big blow to new coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee who has been tasked with leading the team to the continental showpiece.
