If you loot from NHIF, you’ll regret it forever – Livid Uhuru warns

President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned officials at the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) against looting of funds dedicated to Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Speaking at the Health Sector Intergovernmental Forum on UHC in Mombasa today, the President said “if you mismanage the funds you will regret it for the rest of your lives.”

At the same time, he launched a pilot scheme that will offer free healthcare to one million households. The scheme will be managed by NHIF.

The scheme is under the Universal Health Care (UHC) project, one our pillars of his government. It will initially target the low income earners.

Fraudsters To Face the Music 

“Those who attempt to defraud or abuse NHIF will be dealt with accordingly,” President Kenyatta added.

President Kenyatta received the country’s status report on UHC.

The report includes the ongoing beneficiary biometric registration exercise, and reform processes at Kenya Medical Supplies Agency. The Head of State also launched a national Malaria campaign.
