- In Kenya, fees required to replace a KCPE or KCSE certificate is Sh5,800 per certificate, but it is the documents that are required that makes the whole process difficult.
- For a lost degree or diploma certificate, replacement fee ranges from Sh5,000 to Sh15,000 depending on the specific institution. But the process is usually not easy.
- Kenyan society values education as the key to a great life.
We live in a society where children are raised to believe that education is the key to a great life, and that without this ‘basic’ need, you have no purpose in life.
That is why every parent, if not well off, will toil and moil to ensure that their children enjoy the privilege that is education.
The Kenyan system of education has been 8-4-4, until recently when the Government decided to change to a competency-based curriculum (CBC), but this is a story for another day.
Back to 8-4-4 system…imagine the hustles of chalk-and-talk teaching for eight years to get the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), an additional four years to achieve the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), another four or so years to get another certificate of higher learning.
So one day you wake up after an overnight quarrel with your girlfriend, and you are welcome by the unbelievable, fricking site of your aforementioned original certificates, birth certificate, work contracts and important company documents completely destroyed.
This is what happened to one Twitter user, @somambia, who recounts the day his, definitely estranged lady, tore all his original certificates and important documents.
With the day still fresh in his mind like yesterday, @somambia is now offering, what he says is, vital advice to men out there.
“This day is still fresh on my mind like it was yesterday. Just make sure the type of lady you get has something between their ears,” says @somambia.
Some Kenyans on Twitter (KoT), however, were not very sympathetic.
Apparently, one user had earlier on advised men to keep their academic papers away from their women. In fact, @amerix told men to buy a fireproof safe with a secret code and keep them there because when relationships “get bonkers she targets your most precious assets”.
Another one gives a valid idea too, @TrueNyachae says that he did not wait to learn from his own depressing lesson and that is why all his original certificates lie with his dear mother in the village.
Efforts to replace the certificates futile
