Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has launched a blistering attack on Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju over what he terms as “disrespectful” to party leadership.
This comes shortly after Tuju notified all Jubilee members that the ruling party will not be fielding a candidate in the forthcoming Msambweni parliamentary by-election.
Although Tuju, in the statement, said that the decision was made after consultations within the party, Murkomen says that he did consult anybody on “weighty party issue and then makes an announcement”.
Murkomen further reads mischief on the reasons Tuju has cited for not fielding a candidate, in a seat that fell vacant following the death of ODM MP Suleiman Dori in March.
“It’s even ridiculous that Tuju is alleging that failure to field a candidate will help President solve 2/3 gender rule.Awuoro!” tweeted Murkomen.
Murkomen further added: “I strongly condemn the decision announced by Tuju. It’s unconscionable and unconstitutional. I respectfully and strongly disagree with the concession made by the DP. We can’t run a national party, funded by taxpayers like a briefcase Party.”
Soy MP Caleb Kositany, who is also the Jubilee Deputy Secretary-General also refuted Tuju’s claims of consulting within the party first before making the decision.
Consultation with who?.
There is no seat reserved for any political party.
This we MUST revisit. pic.twitter.com/hMLAuXRKyg
