Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi has been released on a Sh500,000 cash bail, a bond of Sh1 million or surety of the same amount.
Delivering his ruling in a case where MP Sudi had challenged the decision to detain him for seven more days, High Court Judge Joel Ngugi said that the fact that the lawmaker is influential does not warrant his incarceration.
Sudi has, however, been warned against making any public statements or proclamations or holding any political rally.
The DP Ruto ally moved to the High Court, challenging the move to detain him for seven more days to allow police to conclude on their investigations.
In a matter that was certified as urgent, Judge Ngugi ordered Sudi’s lawyers to immediately serve the DPP with the application and return to court today (Friday, September 17) for the inter partes hearing.
Justice Prof. Ngungi rubbishes the magistrate’s decision to detain @HonOscarSudi for 11 days without trial (pre-charge) terms it insalubrious. Hon.Sudi released on KShs.500K cash bail. Victory for the rule of law. 👊🏿💪 pic.twitter.com/cgmpY1Dl9B
