Pope Francis on Sunday, September 6 said that gossip is a plague worse than COVID-19. According to the Pope, gossip is seeking to divide the Roman Catholic Church.

The Pope said that the devil, whom he says is the biggest gossiper, is using the vice to divide the church with his lies.

“Please brothers and sisters, let’s try not to gossip. Gossip is a plague worse than COVID.Worse.Let’s make a big effort: no gossiping,” said the Pope.

Pope Francis comments about gossip happened during the Angelus prayer on Sunday, When he was interpreting a biblical passage about the need to correct people on private matters when they do something wrong.

“When we see a brother or sister make a mistake or with a defect,” said Pope Francis, “the first thing we do is go tell others about it. We gossip.”

According to the Pope, gossip closes a person’s heart to the community and hurts the Church’s unity.
