The Ministry of Education is today expected to notify Kenyans on the way forward regarding the 2020 academic calendar.
While lifting the cessation of movement in Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera Counties on Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the CS George Magoha-led ministry to notify Kenyans on the resumption of this years academic calendar for basic education as well as tertiary institutions.
The Ministry of Education jointly with all the relevant stakeholders have been meeting to deliberate on the way forward regarding schools reopening, amid the rising number of coronavirus cases in the country.
In mid-March, government closed down all education institutions in the country in a bid to control the spread of the novel coronavirus.
CS Magoha has on numerous occasions reiterated that the fate of schools reopening solely lies with the COVID-19 situation in the country and that they will heed to advise from the Ministry of Health.
