Education CS George Magoha on Thursday June 18 expressed doubt over a report indicating that thousands of school girls below the age of 19 have been impregnated between mid-March and May 2020.

Speaking while in Nakuru, CS Magoha said the figures are obnoxious, claiming that maybe some NGO’s pushing for the introduction of sex education in schools are behind the ‘exaggerated’ numbers.

According to the CS, how did the survey get the definite figures of pregnancies, unless the girls themselves went and reported that they are expectant? With Magoha saying that it is impractical.

Prof. Magoha also called for the shutting down of all pornographic sites in the country, saying that they are partially to blame for the teenage pregnancies.

He once again reiterated that decision to reopen schools in September is solely dependant on the assessment of the Ministry of Health on Kenya’s COVID-19 situation.

“The ministry of health must be satisfied that all stakeholders will be safe as we reopen schools. We wouldn’t want to advise the president to reopen schools only for him to close after a month,” said Prof. Magoha.

Prof. Magoha was in Nakuru County to inspect the level of school reopening preparedness ahead of the projected date of September.
