OCS arrested in Lamu for mysteriously freeing suspected drug trafficker

Lamu Officer Commanding Station Shadrack Mumo in charge of Kizingitini police station has been arrested for allegedly freeing a drug trafficker.

County Police Commander Mr Muchangi Kioi has confirmed that the OCS was arrested in connection with the disappearance of a drug consignment from the station.

The drug consignment was a huge package of bhang that was seized at Mtangawanda Jetty in Lamu East on Sunday morning.

The bhang was captured alongside Mr Swabri who was allegedly taking it to a Mr Mohammed.

Sources told Daily Nation that police officers at the station asked for a Sh50,000 bribe to cover up and release the drug consignment.

The arrest comes after the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang‘i on Sunday promised to renew the fight against drug trafficking at the Coast.

Matiang’i said the fight would be ‘painful’ and would not spare anyone.

“I do not doubt that it is going to be painful, but we are prepared to start this journey,” Dr Matiang’i.
