Cop arrested in Pangani for shooting at traffic officer on duty

A police constable was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly firing at a traffic police officer on duty and aiding a traffic offender to escape

Constable Abel Musati, attached to  Kamukunji Police Station, reportedly shot at police constable Hillary Korir who was deployed at General Waruinge road near Starehe Boys Centre, Nairobi.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation office reported that the incident took place after Korir arrested a 14-Seater matatu driver for driving without clearance from the Transport and Licencing Board (TLB).

Detectives claim Korir was escorting the matatu to Pangani police station before being stopped along the way, by an armed uniformed police officer who pulled Korir out of the vehicle and fired at him.

“On arriving at Kariokor roundabout, Abel Musati who was in full police uniform and armed with an AK 47 intercepted the vehicle and pulled the traffic officer out before firing one round at him, but missed the shot,” said DCI.

Musati, who was later on arrested and disarmed, is in police custody waiting to be arraigned.

The driver of the impounded vehicle has since gone missing.
