A police officer has been arrested for allegedly demanding Sh200,00 and receiving Sh35,000 from an advocate in Nairobi.
Police Constable Samuel Mutachi, based at Nairobi Central police, was arrested at the station by DCI detectives on Monday.
The officer is said to have demanded Sh200,000 as an inducement to drop investigations into corruption claims against the victim.
According to investigators, Mutachi was given a down payment of Sh35,000 and promised to prevent the matter from proceeding to court for criminal prosecution.
DCI Director George Kinoti said the detectives are investigating a case of forgery and making of a false document levelled against the suspect.
“Detectives have launched investigations into the matter, pending the suspect’s appearance in court,” said Kinoti.
Meanwhile, Kinoti urged members of the public to always insist on being shown the certificate of appointment when being arrested by anyone who purports to be a DCI officer.
