Sportpesa has sued the government due to the days they have been out of business. They said the July 12, switch-off of their M-Pesa pay bills and SMS short codes were illegal.
This is because there are court orders allowing them to keep operating despite being denied licenses by the State.
According to Business Daily, Sportspesa and Betin Kenya want the court to suppress a notice issued by the (BCLB) Betting Control and Licensing Board to Safaricom.
They also want the chairman and top executives of Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) to be arrested or fined for ordering the switch off despite the court order.
Sportpesa reported that their license was not renewed due to the tax demands during the period of May 2014 and March 2019. It was argued that the court stopped the demands and allowed it to operate.
The BCLB bosses had made a plea of not being arrested but the high court rejected it.
