Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has condemned claims that he used ailing boxing legend Conjestina Achieng’ for his public relations purposes and abandoned her after achieving them.
Sonko was reacting to retired football legend Boniface Ambani who had told a local TV station that Conjestina had been abandoned.
The governor said Conjestina is in a rehab centre in Diani, still undergoing treatment, further blasting Ambani for speaking on matters that do not concern him.
Sonko said he never plays PR with people, especially when their health is involved.
In a Facebook live post, Sonko phoned Eden Rehab, Conjestina’s doctor, who confirmed that she is indeed responding well to treatment.
He also spoke to Conjestina, who assured Kenyans and her fans that she is on steady a recovery path.
In November 2018, the Nairobi county boss, accompanied by the Sonko Rescue Team, went to the aid of the renowned boxer and former World Boxing Champion.
The governor visited her in her Siaya home, promising to cater for her rehab treatment and give her a job after a full recovery.
Conjestina was diagnosed with a schizoaffective disorder/paranoid schizophrenia and was admitted in Mathari Hospital in 2012.
