Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot’s ‘Punguza Mizigo’ proposed constitutional amendments Bill has been boosted after gaining support from senators and MCAs.
The Senate Leader of Majority, Kipchumba Murkomen, said that as long as the Bill if for the common good of mwananchi the senators will support it.
Siaya Senator James Orengo added that the senators will support the Bill because it will accelerate development in counties.
Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo, on the other hand, said that the Bill is in line with Senate’s proposal to restructure the senate and increase funding to counties.
Kajiado County Assembly Speaker Johnson Osoi, who is the assemblies chairman said that the MCAs from the region will support it because it will help cushion governors from rewarding wards which voted for them at the expense of those which did not.
Nairobi County Assembly Minority Chief Whip Peter Imwatok said that he supports the Bill because it will empower wards which serve as the closest development units to Kenyans.
National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi dismissed the Bill by Aukot, saying that the MPs will not support it because it is politically motivated.
Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi also rejected it, saying that all the stakeholders need to agree on the way forward.
He added that the Third Way Alliance leader might be using the Bill to gain popularity.
Aukot argues that the ‘Punguza Mizigo’ proposed constitutional amendments will save Kenyans Sh3.78 trillion. He says that money will be used to create jobs for the countries growing youth population.
