Michelle Obama gives relationship advice, asks youth to avoid marrying weak people

Former United States First Lady Michelle Obama has shared thoughtful advice to young people looking forward to getting married.

Speaking during the Essence Festival on Saturday, Michelle shared her knowledge on marriage and dating.

“It is important to marry someone who is your equal, and to marry and be with someone who wants you to succeed as much as you want them to succeed,” said Michelle.

Michelle also cautioned the youth that marriage is not an easy journey.

“You make a choice about marriage each day you’re in it. You do it because you believe in it and you also believe in the other person,” the accomplished lawyer said.

She also said believing in each other is the main reason why it is so important to marry somebody you respect.

The author of Becoming also warned the youth not to marry someone who is comfortable with an easy and weak person.

”My husband is my teammate. If we are going to win this game together, he has to be strong and he has to be okay with me being strong. I do not want a weak player on my team, nor does he,” said Michelle.
