83 people were arrested in Kenol town in Muranga after participating in a weed-themed party.
The event was held at Le Zeros sports bar in Kenol town. The party was dubbed ‘Rastafarian Party’ and the entrance was two rolls of bhang.
Police, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, waited for the party to begin before descending on the premises.
Murang’a South Sub-County Police Commander John Ondit lamented on increased weed consumption in the area.
The police boss said that peddlers in the region had changed tack to attract new clients.
“Some are pretending to be Akorinos and others Rastafarians with bhang related contents in their dressings for easier identification by their clients, but we are going for them,” Mr Ondit said.
He also said that peddlers were taking advantage of the busy Nairobi-Kenol-Moyale road to transport their wares in petroleum tankers.
This comes amid a Nacada report that ranked Muranga county as leading in drug abuse in the larger Mt Kenya region.
