Police in Kutus Kirinyaga County allegedly injured at least 10 health staff using teargas and clubs.

The medics were holding a demonstration heading to Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru’s office when the police intercepted them, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) said in a statement.

The health workers have accused Waiguru of failing to address their grievances.

The workers were led by Central Region Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary Dr. Gor Goody.

The health workers complained about the poor working conditions and horrible environmental state of Kerugoya Referral Hospital.

However, Waiguru who earlier threatened to sack the striking workers claims the people with political agendas are behind these strikes.

“As a county, we cannot allow people to suffer just because selfish individuals want to pursue their political ambitions,” said Waiguru.
