Woman in retired president Moi land case flees home, fears for her life

The woman who is to receive Sh1 billion compensation from retired President Moi for alleged land grabbing has fled home saying she fears for her life.

Susan Chelugui had brought the case to the High Court claiming that on September 21, 1983, the former president forcibly took over a 53-acre piece of land which she owned.

Chelugui now claims she has not found peace since the High Court directed Moi to pay her back

“We have decided to vacate since we fear for our lives. In Kenya when you go against a powerful person they mostly assassinate you,” Chelugui told Citizen TV.

She does not want the money Moi was ordered to pay her instead she wants her land back.

“He (Moi) is a rich person. Why does he not want to give me my land back?” asked Chelugui.

The old lady said her family has suffered irreparable damages since they were displaced from their farm.

Susan says the land was a product of her hard work which she cannot exchange with money no matter the amount.
